Surgically placed below the gums over a series of appointments, implants fuse to the jawbone and serve as a base for individual crowns, bridges or dentures. Implants offer stability because they fuse to your bone. Integration of the implants into your jaw also helps your replacement teeth feel more natural, and some people also find the secure fit more comfortable than conventional substitutes. Candidates for dental implants need to have healthy gums and adequate bone to support the implant. A thorough evaluation by Dr. Harper, Dr. George or Dr. Baker will help determine whether you are a good candidate, and what technique is right for you.
Importance Of Replacing Missing Teeth
Besides the cosmetic benefit, replacing missing teeth will also restore your ability to chew and speak properly. In addition, the space caused by missing teeth may allow surrounding teeth to shift into that space. This shifting could cause a misalignment in your bite that can result in problems with your jaw joint. These shifted teeth are also harder to clean, making them more susceptible to gum disease, decay or even additional tooth loss.
How Does It Work?
Implants begin with a surgically placed post that is securely anchored into the jawbone. The bone surrounding the anchor will heal in approximately 4-6 months. With a completely solid and stable anchor point, an artificial tooth is then installed. The end result is a new artificial tooth that is virtually indistinguishable from a natural tooth, both from an aesthetic and functional standpoint. In cases where several teeth are missing, dental implants can also act as the teeth to which bridges are fixed, again perfectly mimicking the function of healthy, natural teeth.
Tooth Implants
Are you missing teeth due to severe tooth decay, gum disease, trauma or even a failed root canal? Total Dental Care offers implant treatment to patients seeking a permanent solution for missing teeth. Dental implants are used to replace one or more missing teeth. Implants are made of titanium or similar materials that are well suited for the human body.
Denture Implants
For patients looking for a more stable denture option, Total Dental offers implant-supported dentures. Traditional dentures can be used to replace multiple missing teeth, but can sometimes feel loose and cause difficulty with chewing or speaking. We can fabricate a denture that fits over a series of dental implants, and literally snaps in place to hold it more securely. This can be done with full-size dental implants, or mini-implants, depending on each patient's needs.
